Latex and electrical calculations

I’ve just spent about two hours going through my old electrical calculation pages converting all of the formulas to Latex.

I managed to find a plugin that would work with WordPress to give me some basic latex formatting. It wasn’t too easy to install to be honest but I managed. I can now do things like this.

$\mathbf{I_t\geq\frac{I_n}{C_a\hspace{1 mm}C_i\hspace{1 mm}C_g\hspace{1 mm}C_r}}$

Nothing too pretty to be honest, I think it looks ugly, but it’s a lot prettier than I previously had! I’m sure my syntax isn’t quite right, so if there’s any latex experts that read, feel free to give me some pointers!

I broke it

I upgraded to the latest WordPress and K2 this evening. I should have saved that for a time when I have a few more hours to play with.
For the time being things seem to work, but there are some broken areas. I’ll try fixing them as soon as I get a little more free time to play with!

SDJLs new look

SDJLs new theme

I had a little play around with creating my own look for K2 late last night. Whilst I’m not 100% satisfied with the look at the moment, I think it’s a darn sight better than the previous bog standard look I had going on.

The most notable changes are the resized header and overall font size. I didn’t mind the smaller fonts until last night when I played around with font sizes in Firebug. I think the slightly larger size makes content easier to read and overall presentation looks nicer.

Obviously, if you’re reading this through my RSS feed then you’re not going to be seeing the new looks. Come by and have a little look and see what you think!

WordPress Stats

You’re now able to use Automattic’s WordPress stats system for your self-hosted WordPress blog. This could be pretty neat for those not wanting to clog up their hosting with additional stats tracking programs. I’m quite happy with Mint for my stats at the moment though.

Share This PluginAnyone whose pretty eagled eyed will notice the new Share This link just next to the comments link on each post. I implemented the Share This plugin by Alex King this morning in the hope of driving some more traffic to the website and allowing visitors to bookmark and posts they find interesting.

It’s quite a subtle integration into the posts, but I didn’t want anything overly obtrusive and ugly and Alex’s plugin does just that. I did change the default icon that shows next to the link as it was a little bulky and frankly quite ugly!
The link also allows you to email posts to people, which kills two birds with one stone.
