I think the police would have gotten a better reception had they turned up in one of these to arrest Paris Hilton or Lindsay Lohan.

Italian Police

Yep. A Lamborghini Gallardo as a police car. Wouldn’t you just love to be the policeman driving that! Thanks to Adrian for the photo!

View from La BrentaI got back from Italy on Thursday evening. I had a brilliant time!

We spent the first four days in the Dolomite area and started off with some via ferrata, which is basically walking along a rock face clipping into the steel wire which guides you through the route.

The first via ferrata we did was incredibly easy but a good way to start the holiday near to Lake Garda. We then moved up a notch and did one of the hardest routes for the area, which took us four hours to complete but was great fun. It was a little more explosed and there was more shit factor involved, so it kept you on your toes!

Our plans then changed a little and instead of doing more via ferrata’s around the area, we walked up La Brenta and attempted to climb to the peak called Cima Tosa. The refuge that we stayed at on the mountain for two nights was 2,500 metres up and the peak was supposed to be around 3,000. To get to the peak we crossed two glaciers, which was interesting as they slopped off at the edge. Unfortunately we never made it to the peak due to the weather closing in very quickly and someone having issues map reading :D

After the two nights in the mountain we drove down to Tuscany and spent the rest of our holiday in a Tuscan mill. It was lovely surroundings, we had a river running through the land and plenty of space to move about.
Rather than stay at the mill for the entire time we visited a few places in Italy. We spent a day in Siena and a day in Rome, both having their highlights. We also spent a day doing things in the local area. I quite enjoyed going to the hot springs, that was great fun!

I have loads of photos to collate and put on DVD’s for everyone so when i get a chance, i’ll stick some of mine online and post a link to the gallery.

This time tomorrow, i’ll be sat in Gatwick airport waiting for our flight to Verona in Italy!
There’s six of us going for a climbing/relaxing holiday, which is going to be brilliant!

Tim’s schedule so far has us climbing different routes in the Dolomites for four days from the 19th and then spending time in Tuscany doing not a lot. We’re taking one day out to go to Rome and pick up another person whose flying in for the relaxation part and not the climbing.

Even though i purchased a digital compact camera with the intention of leaving my digital SLR at home for the ten days we’re in Italy, i’m going to be taking both cameras. I can’t go leaving the better camera at home just in case i drop it off a mountain!
So my reasoning is this, i’ll take the compact out when we’re climbing and the SLR when we’re sight seeing/not doing a lot. I think that’s a good compromise! :D

lotsa emails this way!
