On behalf of a friend who shall remain anonymous, I’d like to thank the NHS for providing such a superior service. For ten months now you’ve had this operation planned. In fact it was due to take place next Wednesday afternoon.

This morning, said friend received a letter of cancellation, just four days away from when you were due to cut him up. A reason for the cancellation would be nice. Being a teacher means precise planning of things like this as they can’t really take leave during school time. Easter would have been the ideal time for recovery.

Thank you NHS for keeping people like this on their toes. It’s nice to know our NI contributions and taxes pay for a cat and mouse game.

I got bitten yesterday whilst shredding some cuttings in the garden.
I didn’t really think anything of it as you occasionally get a nibble here and there from harmless little midges.

However, today my leg had swollen up rather nicely and it’s been a little painful to walk on.
The back of my knee is inflamed and is preventing me from stretching my leg out straight.

I’ve just come back from a trip to the hospital, where they gave me some antibiotics to take.
I’d like to meet the bug that bit me in a dark alley with a fly swatter!

Last night, well, early this morning, was my first trip to A&E for a very long time.
It must be at least fourteen years since my last visit for a suspected broken arm.

Whilst we were loading our equipment out of the National Army Museum last night, i managed to get my hand caught between a wooden box and a metal flight case. The result was a nice gouge to my hand, which was pretty deep.

A quick drive back from London to my local hospital proved to be a good one. When i arrived A&E was empty, which is always reassuring and i got seen to within half an hour. I remember sitting around waiting for several hours last time i went to hospital!

After a quick look under the temporary dressing that we’d managed to scrape together from the measly first aid kit we had on site, i was sent to another room where it was cleaned out properly and glued together. I was then given a tetanus injection, just to make sure i didn’t get an infection.
The glue they use is pretty clever, it lets your skin breath whilst holding it together. The nurse said it saves them hours every day, so i’m all for it, even if it does sting!

lotsa emails this way!
