I sometimes use iCal alerts to warn me of upcoming dates in my diary, mainly tax return bits and other boring stuff, but I’ve never been too enthused with the way iCal alerts me to those impending dates of doom.

Thankfully, I no longer need to suffer the mundane ways of iCal as there is a way to utilise Growl to alert you to upcoming important stuff. Thomas Aylott’s put together a couple of amendments to iCal’s inbuilt email routine, to allow Growl to be notified of those important dates. I’ve installed it and tried it out and it works well. Just as a side note, the sticky Growl notification won’t work if you’re using the Bezel or Music Video styles. They’re queue based and so therefore can’t sticky a notification otherwise the ones behind it won’t come through.
