Live Earth happened yesterday. Eight concerts in eight different locations to bring awareness about global warming.

All Live Earth venues will be designed and constructed by a team of sustainability engineers who will address the environmental and energy management challenges of each concert site, as well as the operations of sponsors, partners and other Live Earth affiliates. Each venue will not only be designed to maintain a minimum environmental impact, but will showcase the latest state-of-the-art energy efficiency, on-site power generation, and sustainable facilities management practices.

I’d be really interested to see how they’re cutting down their own carbon footprint. Using LED technology for lighting is just one small part. LED’s still use power though and how about the sound systems? There’s no funky LED power saving audio technology about. Then there’s trucking equipment and artists to venues, audience and staff travelling to and from site, broadcast requirements for power and movement, etc etc.

I’d like to see published statistics about what factors were taken into account and what kind of energy was saved, compared to say a standard concert taking place.

Tim’s a bastard. He’s doing the Rolling Stones concert in Budva.

The BBC have got some great coverage of this years Glastonbury.
I’m currently watching the Killers on the pyramid stage and it looks like they’ve got some pretty funky video work and lighting going on.

LED video walls can be too overpowering if not configured correctly, but this one looks reasonable and doesn’t detract too much from the acts on stage. At a guess I’d say it’s probably set at about 20% brightness. That’s how efficient and powerful LEDs can be!

I still find it funny that intense colours from the lighting can’t be picked up correctly by cameras. It’s mainly noticeable when saturated blues and purples are used. You get a blown fuzzy look to the image and it looks like the camera sensitivity is too high. It’s to do with the colour spectrum and how light works, I just bet it looks a whole lot nicer being there.

I really hate Adrian right now.

Adrian says:
ha!! guess what i just got!

David says:

Adrian says:

“They’re not that environmentally conscious, but they’ve heard of global warming,” said Reiner. “Nigel thought it was just because he was wearing too much clothing - that if he just took his jacket off it would be cooler.”
