I spent all of last week up in the Lake District with a huge bunch of friends. It was so nice to get away from the hustle and bustle of life down in London and replace it with the tranquil mood of the Lake District.

We were staying in what I would class as the middle of nowhere. We’d managed to secure a house/barn combination on some forestry commission land. To get to it you had to drive down a windy gravel track, over cattle grids, past rivers and through trees.

The drinking side of things had been organised very well. Tim had been in contact with a local micro-brewery and we managed to bag ourselves a seventy pint keg for £67.50. Bargain! We did however manage to consume that virtually in one night, so we placed an order for another two, which were just about consumed by the end of the week.

The week was spent walking, climbing, abseiling, making death slides and generally having as much fun as possible away from everything technological. I think everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves and we’re looking forward to all doing the same thing next year.

I’m getting back into my rock climbing which is good. I used to go when I was at college but hadn’t been for some while.

Tim and I are currently trying to get in at least one climb a week at the moment. There’s several of us going to the Lake District in April so we’ll get to put our climbing to some use on natural rock. If we’re good enough, we plan to head out to Yosemite in October for some serious climbing.

A man who scaled a 27-storey building in central London has been arrested for allegedly wasting police time.

Hundreds of workers stopped to watch as the man, aged 45, climbed up Portland House in Victoria Street without ropes.

Police taped off the area and later arrested him on suspicion of criminal damage and wasting police time.

Police said Mr Robert was bailed until an unspecified date in February.

Mr Robert has so far climbed more than 70 of the world’s tallest structures, including the Eiffel Tower, the Empire State Building and the Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur.

I’m surprised they didn’t have him under the anti-terrorism act. The only waste of police time was the police waiting around for him. They should have gone and had a doughnut or tackled some real criminals and returned later when he was on his way down in the lift. As for criminal damage, I hardly think a pair of rubber shoes is going to damage concrete.

I lied in my previous post, we ended up in the Peak District. Unfortunately, the weather wasn’t particularly nice and we didn’t get to do much walking or climbing. Here’s a few images of what we did get up to however.

Ale

Posing

Fire!

The company was good as was the beer and location. My cloths smell a bit too much of smoke, but they can be washed!

I’m off to Shropshire with Tim and Paul for a few days. We’re doing some walking, climbing and plenty of drinking. We’re also celebrating Tim’s birthday which is today, so it should be good fun.

lotsa emails this way!
