Blurry HollyI took this image the other morning when Adrian and I went out for a sunrise photography session.

I wasn’t too impressed with many of my photos of the sun rising and I think this was one of the better photos I took. It’s slightly out of focus, not on purpose, but it seems to work. I’m still undecided as to what I think about this. Sometimes I look at it and like it, other times I don’t like it.

Band Blur

I went to another UnderGround Bar band night yesterday. Unfortunately, barely anyone turned up. There hadn’t been much marketing by the looks of it, certainly not to the right people anyway.

I still stayed for the night, mainly so I could try out my new camera but also to make up numbers. For those interested, I’ve compiled a selection of the best images in the following gallery album.

Small leaf

I bought a new digital SLR a few days back and have been trying it out today.
Instead of the APS-C sized sensor of the Canon 300D that I had, I now have a full frame Canon 5D.

With a new camera comes the new button layouts and its been taking a while to get used to them all. It’s not just the locations of buttons, it’s also the different combinations to press to adjust settings whilst shooting which need to be re learnt.

The image in this post is one I took down the garden. I thought the leaf looked pretty prominent even though it’s been half eaten! A large version of the image can be seen by clicking the smaller thumbnail.

As I said yesterday, I’ve been busy snapping away, experimenting with different flash locations and editing my photos in photoshop. I took this nice moody photo yesterday of one of my venus fly traps.

Venus fly trap - small version

The original photo was relatively dark anyway, but I increased the darkness and colour balance to give an almost alien feel to these already creepy looking plants!

I said i was going to post some photos for the other band night that i photographed on Sunday.
They can all be found on the 3rd September 06: The UnderGround gallery.

Drum kit

I wasn’t as impressed with the results of these photos and i did restrict how i composed some of the shots. As it was an all ages event, meaning there were under 18’s, I didn’t really know where I stood with regards to the law and photographing minors. This time round I tried to make sure I photographed mainly the bands and groups of people rather than recognisable individuals.
It’s something that I need to look into if I plan to photograph any more of the all ages nights.

It was a pretty good night though. I definetely need to invest in a pair of ear plugs as my ears hurt a little that night!

lotsa emails this way!
