We arrived in Paris this morning. I woke up outside the hotel on the tour bus, good timing. I do have a slight problem though; I don’t speak any French and I’m sure they’ll do their best to not speak English. Maybe I’ll try the speak slower and louder approach that every bad English tourist does!

Leeds festival

Leeds was muddy. Very very muddy. It rained during the setup process and turned most of back stage into a bog. The Radio 1 / NME stage was particularly messy out front where the punters were. Pendulum had a massive crowd appear for their set which churned the place up even more. Just before our lot went on they had an unknown US act play, which emptied the place out. It soon filled back up when the boys got on stage.

I was a little nervous about the stage setup for the show as there’s quite a lot of stuff to do in the thirty minute turn around time. It was frantic, but I got it done on time and am now a little more relaxed about the show. Reading festival tomorrow then off to Paris for a show.

I got a last minute phone call today. I’ll be going to Oxford, Leeds festival and Reading festival with The Last Shadow Puppets. Paris might appear there somewhere too. Sweet!

Caravaners

We’re camping on the Isle of Wight whilst working on Adrians house. Yesterday was a day of realisation for me; I don’t understand caravaners.

The majority of people with caravans here have a satellite for TV, full on table and chair sets, microwaves, gas “barbecues”, washing airers and toilets.

Why if you’re going camping do you need such facilities!? We have a tent, gas stove and sleeping bags. The biggest luxury being an inflatable matress for comfort.

The worse thing so far is the northener across the hedge with a flag pole and flag (which lights up!) and solar garden lights. Why not bring the kitchen sink and shed next time?

Evo X

I’ve been umming and erring over a new car for a while. I suppose you would call it that, as I have no intention of actually buying anything right now.

I’ve had my Honda Civic for almost three years now and I still love driving it. There’s no need to buy a new car, apart from the fact that I’d like to and, well, I can.

I’ve decided on a car that I must have at some point in my life; The Mitsubishi Evolution X.
I’ve been a fan of them since seeing an Evo IX parked up the road everytime I drive past. Lovely cars. Then to add some more sway to the argument about owning one, Top Gear came along and savaged the new Subaru Imprezza with a sterling review of the Evo X. Any red blooded male knows that car choices are dictated by Top Gear.

So I priced it all up this evening. Strangely, the price of the car didn’t really shock me. I was quite settled in when I read my configuration would cost a cool £29,999. I could have opted for what I shall call the daddy, but for an extra 60bhp and a few tarty bits on the interior, I didn’t think an extra £8,000 was really worth it.

Next up; the insurance quote. This is the bit that always hurts and surprises me. Ok ok. I’m only 25 and want to drive a car with 300bhp as an every day car. Seriously. What’s wrong with that?! The cheapest quote I managed to find in my five minute search was for £1,433.61.
All of the big name insurers had done a runner and these quotes were being offered up by specialist insurers. You know, the ones that deal with people who have no no claims bonuses, or have convictions and bad credit ratings. It looks like my seven years no claims and pass plus certificate don’t count for much when dealing with big toys. I’ll come back another day when I’ve saved a few more pennies!

Money. Again.

I have now discussed this invoice with xyz and have been asked to pay you for the first three days, making a total of £xyz. Your cheque has gone out first class in last night’s post. The dispute had slightly delayed processing.

When you dispute an invoice, you’re supposed to actually contact the person who you’re disputing the invoice with. Seeing as that’s not that case and I don’t particularly like you or your company, I’m going to sting you for every penny you owe me.

It’s for comments like that, Top Gear makes me laugh each week. Thanks to the iPlayer I can catch up with the TV I missed over the past week.

Rock the Polo

I’ve spent the last six days in Windsor at the Guards Polo Club putting in lighting for the Rock the Polo event hosted by Chinawhites. It’s generally been a fun few days but the actual event was somewhat stuck up.

People with hideous amounts of money seem to have no shame and do as they please. We saw two burnt out cars on the way back in yesterday morning and on the way home on Sunday night there were plenty of fights and people stealing things.

Just goes to show, money doesn’t buy you dignity, respect or class.
