I just drove home through Bromley and the entire centre of Bromley looks like it has lost power. Street lights were out, as were traffic lights and other road signs and there were plenty of house alarms ringing. I wonder if a copper thief has come to visit the area?
Update
Just a faulty piece of equipment apparently.
Yeh I just walked from bromley south to shortlands to my house. There is a total power failure. This is quite a large area for a power failure.any ideas to why this has happened?
Yeh the whole town is down from brom south to shortlands including my house!
Yep - theres a big outtage at the moment. Covers sidcup, eltham, chislehurst and even dartford according to Capital FM.
I’m just searching for more details - seems like I’m quite lucky as I’m between some of those areas!
Congratulations! Bromley is my home town and this posting was the first thing to make it onto page 1 of a Google search about tonight’s power cut. I still havn’t found out why the power went out - it’s not like there was a thunderstorm or anything like that so your theory about a copper thief seems … er … almost plausible for now. I wouldn’t like to be the guy ripping out live power cables though.
It’s back up again. Went down around 11:50pm, I had to go out, it was back on when I got in ten minutes ago, and I drove through Bromley as well - power’s on there too, so I guess EDF got their act together rapidly this time :)
Likely; and this is the second time in 12 days he has visited - although more than possible he is resident in LBB.
Hello mate,
I saw it too. Apparently was the whole of Bromley and Orpington I’m in Shortlands and the entire valley was out, looks weird when there are no lights whatsoever.
fraid to say no copper thief!! it was a broken piece of equiptment in a main sub station.. over 40,000 people went off, but back on within a few hours
The weird thing was the effect it had on my cats. They can see in the dark a heck of a lot better than I can but they were completely spooked. It was the first power cut to happen in their lives and they huddled close to me throughout - just like small children would I suppose. Ahh bless.
