I purchased a new lense for my camera yesterday so I’ve been playing around with it today.
I decided to get a Sigma 17 - 70mm Macro lense. The idea behind this purchase is so I can get in closer to subjects and take slightly more intricate shots.
This is my first macro lense and so far, I’m impressed with it.
I took a couple of sample shots with the newer lense and then compared it to identical shots taken with my other zoom lense, a Canon EF28 - 135mm. Whilst they produce very similar results, i found the Sigma lense to produce a slightly more meaty photograph.
Along with my new lense purchase, I also ordered a Canon off camera flash shoe.
This enables the flash unit, which normally sits on top of a camera, to be positioned else where.
I decided to give both of my new toys a try out downstairs with a bunch of sunflowers. I decided to concentrate the focus on one flower head and experimented with the flash unit positioned in different places and angles.
I’m quite pleased with some of the results and found that being able to move the flash around the subject without having to move the camera helped a great deal.
You can find a selection of the photos i took in my gallery at the following URL.

Good Set of pics mate… i would suggest the problem mainly lies in the exposure…. a lot of them are under exposed… there are a couple that are over exposed… I reckon

is the best of the lot
Yeah i’d agree with you there.
The latter shots (the better ones), I used full manual control of the camera.
As you well know, i’m still getting used to using all of the settings on the camera!
